Within the logopedian practice correlations turned out between the way of speaking of mothers and speech impairments of their children. Our investigations of pitch ranges show that mothers of speech-impaired children use different speech melodies towards their children depending on their gender. In conclusion we found that the value of the pitch range is higher for mothers of female children than for mothers of male children. That imposes that a low pitch range limits the language processing of sons and an excessively high pitch range shows negative effects on language processing of daughters. The examined mothers of male children do not mark the prosody sufficiently, whereas the examined mothers of female children exaggerate the prosodian marking. The former leads to hindering of the differentiation between relevant and irrelevant information. The latter leads to an overflow of signals.
